A new clinical study aimed to see if a stem-cell based eye drop could help severe dry eye.  The drops are derived from corneal epithelial stem cells and appear to reduce inflammation while also actually regenerating the eye tissues.  This is exciting because it may mean that a stem cell based treatment may be useful for Meibomain Gland Dysfunction, where glands have atrophied and died.  It would be very exciting if the stem cells were able to regenerate atrophied Meibomain Glands that had died or dropped off.

Results at 12 weeks of treatment showed patient reported improvements of between 14% and 23% compared to their baseline scores.  More importantly, no adverse reactions or serious side effects were reported.

This will be an interesting treatment to keep an eye on.  You can read more about this treatment and the study here.
